Terms of use

What CineMention is

CineMention is an independent film diary and community, run by fans and currently in alpha. It is not affiliated with, endorsed by or certified by TMDB, or by any studio, distributor or festival.

Film, cast, crew and artwork come from TMDB. Everything a member writes — ratings, reviews, lists, posts and messages — is that member’s own. Using the site means accepting these terms; if you do not accept them, do not use the site.

Read the Privacy notice as well — it says what the app stores about you and who else sees it. Using CineMention means accepting that too.

Your account

• You must be at least 16 years old to hold an account.
• Give accurate details when you sign up and keep them current. Your credentials are yours to look after, and everything done from your account is your responsibility.
• One account per person. Do not open a second one to get around a block, a suspension, or to weigh in twice on the same thing.

What you post

• You keep the rights to what you write. Posting it here gives CineMention permission to store, display and distribute it inside the app — which is what makes a review readable by the people you wrote it for.
• Post only what is yours to post. Do not upload writing, images or video you do not hold the rights to.
• Anything set to public can be read by anyone with the link, including people who are not signed in.
• Mark spoilers. Every review and post has a control for it.

How to behave

The Community policy is the full version and forms part of these terms. In short:

• Be civil about films and about each other. Disagreeing with a rating is not a reason to go after the person who gave it.
• No hate, harassment, threats or discrimination, including on the grounds of race, age, gender, gender identity, ethnicity, religion, disability or sexual orientation.
• No spam, advertising or link farming, and no impersonation.
• Do not manipulate the numbers: no coordinated review-bombing, no rating a film you have not seen to move its average, no mass following to farm follows back.
• Do not log or review a film because something else shares its title.
• Report what breaks these rules rather than answering it in kind. Posts, comments, debate arguments and messages each carry a report action, and a member you would rather not see can be blocked from their profile.

Automated access

• Do not scrape, crawl or bulk-download the site, and do not build an index, a mirror or a competing service out of it.
• The addresses under /api serve this app’s own pages. They are not a public API — see the API page.
• Do not break, overload or work around the app’s security, rate limits or access controls.

Moderation

Content that breaks these terms can be removed or hidden, and the account behind it suspended, without notice first. Behaviour aimed at people here counts even when it happens somewhere else. If you think a decision was wrong, say so through Contact.

Alpha, and what that means

• CineMention is offered as it is and as it happens to be available. Features change, break and disappear.
• Data may be reset while the app is in alpha. Do not treat this as the only copy of anything you would miss.
• Nothing here is a guarantee of uptime or accuracy. So far as the law allows, CineMention is not liable for what you lose by relying on it.

Ending it

You can stop using CineMention whenever you like; your account lives in Settings under Account. To have your account and everything on it removed, ask through Contact.

Changes to these terms

These terms change as the app does, and the date at the top says when they last did. Carrying on after a change means accepting it.
